What is Lavender Speaks?
Written by ~CT
The Lavender Lab, led by Dr. Ethan Mereish at the University of Maryland, is a pioneering research initiative dedicated to understanding the complex psychological, social, and cultural factors affecting the health and well-being of LGBTQ+ individuals and Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC). This lab is particularly focused on exploring the impact of oppression-based stressors—such as discrimination, harassment, and structural oppression—on mental health and substance use among these communities.
But how can you join the discussion? (Yes, you!)
The Lavender Lab invites individuals to participate in its studies and share their stories. For those interested in learning more or contributing to this important work, resources and contact information are available on the lab's website. By engaging with diverse communities and fostering a culture of inclusivity and respect, the Lavender Lab is at the forefront of research that seeks to improve the lives of marginalized populations.
What is Lavender Speaks?
Lavender Speaks is a community blog created by the Lavender Lab Teen Advisory Board. We envision this blog as being a safe space for QTBIPOC community members to express their stories, share community events and community advice, and share resources with each other! This space is community-led and community-informed. We hope you’ll take some time to engage with our posts and share your own reflections, resources, and community with us. 💜
